We’re really pleased to share that Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity has been awarded £2,490 from One Community Foundation through the Thornton Family Fund.
This funding will help us continue doing something that sits right at the heart of our work — creating safe, welcoming spaces where people can connect, share experiences, and feel less alone.

Why this matters
Every week, around 15 people in Yorkshire hear the life-changing words: “you have a brain tumour.”
For many, what follows can feel overwhelming — a mix of uncertainty, fear, and isolation. It’s in these moments that having somewhere local to turn can make all the difference.
Whether it’s attending a peer support group, joining a wellbeing walk, or simply sitting quietly with others who understand, these spaces provide something truly powerful: connection without explanation.
As one person we support shared:
“Since finding the charity, I feel like there is a warm blanket of support around me.”
The impact of community
Over the past year, we’ve seen just how vital these spaces are.
In 2025 alone, we delivered 6,568 support contacts — more than double the year before.
Behind that number are thousands of conversations, shared moments, and quiet reassurances — people finding others who truly “get it”.
Not everyone comes to talk. Some people simply come to listen, to sit with a cup of tea, and to feel part of something. And that’s enough. Because for a couple of hours, they’re not facing this alone.
What this funding will support
Thanks to the Thornton Family Fund, we can continue to:
Provide local, in-person peer support groups across Yorkshire
Create safe and welcoming environments for people affected by brain tumours
Ensure that support remains accessible, informal, and led by lived experience
Reach more people who may otherwise feel isolated after diagnosis
This funding helps us keep these spaces open — and keep them growing. For more information on our support groups across all of Yorkshire please visit Our Current Groups

Thank you
We are incredibly grateful to One Community Foundation for recognising the importance of this work and choosing to support it.
Because of funding like this, we can continue working towards our vision:
That no one in Yorkshire faces a brain tumour diagnosis alone.
