Tissue bank supports new research
Tissue bank supports new research
Tissue processed at the Leeds Tissue Bank has been used in a project published in the Neuro-Oncology journal.
In 2021, Yorkshire's Brain Tumour Charity and OSCAR's Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity provided funding to set up the
Leeds Neuropathology Research Tissue Bank
.
Tissue processed at the Leeds Tissue Bank can be accessed by researchers across the country to help in their projects to find better treatments for brain tumours.
A paper by a team of researchers, who accessed the Leeds Tissue Bank to carry out their project, has recently been published in the prestigious Neuro-Oncology journal.
The paper focuses on characterising different cell types within glioblastoma tumours.
Dr Lucy Stead, who worked on the paper, writes: "Tissue used in this study was accessed from the Sidney Driscol Neuroscience Foundation BTNW tissue bank. Tissue processing was possible through the Leeds Neuropathology Research Tissue Bank funded by Yorkshire's Brain Tumour Charity and OSCAR's Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity.”

Dr Stephen Pollock, who manages the Leeds Tissue Bank, says: "With the great team here I’m looking to build an outstanding resource for the Brain Cancer Research community. My hope is that we can accelerate the understanding in this area and make a real difference to those affected by brain cancer both now and in the future."

Here at YBTC, we believe that funding research in hospitals and universities across Yorkshire is key to discovering better treatments, aiding earlier diagnosis and ultimately finding a cure for brain tumours.
