Why is brain tumour research so important?

In more than 35 years, brain tumour treatments have remained relatively unchanged. Unlike other cancers, research has been underfunded and continues to be way behind. In fact, it could take up to 100 years for brain cancer to catch up with developments in other diseases and this is why the brain tumour research that we fund in Yorkshire is so important.

Did you know....?

* Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer in people aged under 40 years old

* The lack of brain tumour research and funding means there has been little improvement to survival rates in the last 35 years.

* Approximately just one third of patients survive for over five years following the diagnosis of a primary or malignat brain tumour.

We are proud to fund world-class research in our region; working together towards understanding brain tumours better, developing new and better treatments and ultimately finding a cure.
