We

We're looking for Volunteer Greeters!

Fri 23 April

We are currently looking for volunteers to help greet our customers at No 31, Otley Road in Headingley, Leeds.

We are delighted to have reopened our charity shop and takeaway café at No 31 Otley Road.

After being closed for most of 2020 due to the pandemic, it has been great to be back and see all our loyal customers again. We have been fortunate to have had lots of stock donated, which we need help sorting and getting onto the shop floor for sale. Due to restrictions still in place we would love a volunteer greeter to welcome people safely back into our shop.

Can you help?

We are looking for volunteers to cover our opening times, which are Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4.30pm. If you can offer a few hours or a few days we can organise a rota for volunteers, so that you can enjoy volunteering for a great cause.

What will I be doing?

No. 31 is located on a busy high street so our volunteer greeters will be the first point of contact for customers visiting our charity shop and café, currently serving takeaways drinks and homemade cakes.

As a volunteer greeter your role will involve:
  • Meeting and greeting shoppers and visitors at the shop door.
  • Ensuring we follow the rules of no more than 6 people in the shop at a time and kindly asking people to wait if needed before they enter the shop.
  • Advising customers of the one-way system, to keep all customers socially distanced and safe.
  • Pointing out our hand sanitising station on entry.
  • Generally assisting customers on the shop floor.
All volunteers will be fully briefed and prepared before volunteering with YBTC, and there will always be a member of staff or other volunteers on hand to help! It goes without saying that we will always have your safety as a priority.

By volunteering for YBTC, you won't just be helping us to fund research and support local families. You will also be picking up valuable skills and experience, enhancing your CV and boosting your employment prospects.

Why should I volunteer for YBTC?

  • Over 1000 people are diagnosed with a brain tumour across Yorkshire & the Humber each year.
  • Around 10% of these people are under 18 years old.
  • Of all cancers, brain tumours are the biggest killer of people under 40 years old.
  • Lack of funding and research in this field means survival rates have not improved in 40 years.
  • Situated in the control centre for thinking, remembering, feeling & moving, brain tumours are hard to treat.
  • Only one third of patients survive for 5 years from diagnosis of a malignant brain tumour.
  • Currently, brain tumours cannot be prevented because their cause is still unknown.
  • There are over 120 different types of brain tumour, which makes treatment very complicated.

How can I join in?

If you're interested in joining #TeamYBTC, visit our Join Our Team page for more information on the role and contact jen@yorksbtc.org.uk for an application form.

YBTC does not receive any Government funding and we rely on donations to continue doing what we do. Volunteers are vital to ensure we can continue to fund research and continue our support!
