We're thrilled to be able to share some news with you from our research teams in Leeds, Sheffield and Hull.
Here are the latest updates from the teams from the past few months:

  • The lab group is now 10 strong, which makes it one of the biggest single brain tumour groups in the UK, if not the biggest
  • The lab team have won the Cancer Research UK Cancer Tech Accelerator Award and the Wellcome Trust Translational Partnership Award
  • the team is working on portable MRI technology for brain tumour surgery post-op
  • one of the students within the team has been awarded a funded PhD via the Leeds Cares Studentship programme
  • the team has welcomed a student who is completing a one-year fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons
  • Antonia Barry has successfully passed her 1st year progression viva and has moved on to the 2nd year of her PhD. She was commended on her hard work and the examiners had lots of useful ideas for progression going forward.
  • Pedro Beltran-Alvarez was invited to present at the Leeds Institute of Medical Research virtual seminar series, talking about the team's research on methylation and their work on the tissue-on-chip model.
  • The team has been invited to present at the FASEB2022 meeting on Biological Methylation in Italy in June 2022.

  • the team embarked on a new research project, funded by YBTC, which looks for common weaknesses in glioblastoma cells taken from various areas within a tumour
  • Kelsey Wosnitzka won a prestigious scholarship from the University of Sheffield, allowing her to begin work on the research project
  • the team created a new poster to inform patients of the benefits of tumour tissue donation. The poster was redesigned following feedback from YBTC's Patient Advisory Group.
