Our walkers met at RSBP St Aiden's Nature Park at 11am ready for our first ever wellbeing walk, guided by Good Footing founder Danny Bulmer.
Their loved ones, who were unable to or who preferred not to take part in the walk, stuck around at the café and chatted with a member of YBTC staff.
As well as spotting plenty of wildlife, the walkers had chance to chat and share their experiences with others.
One participant said “It was great being side by side, it really helped me to talk and feel more relaxed.”
Another said “I enjoyed the discussions I had and hearing how other people have overcome the difficulties they’ve faced.”
Another commented: “Being outside felt great, and taking a little time for me was just what I needed.”
Rais Hasan, a longtime supporter of YBTC who became a renowned photographer following a brain tumour diagnosis, came along on the day and took some wonderful photographs of the group in action.
After an hour of gentle strolling and good conversation, the walkers met their loved ones back at the café for a well-deserved brew. An enjoyable morning was had by all and many people are already signed up to come along to another walk in the near future.
The walks, which are open to all adults affected by a brain tumour including patients and their loved ones, are set to take place monthly at beautiful nature spots across Yorkshire.
The next dates are:
-
Sunday 5th September at Oakwell Hall, Birstall
-
Sunday 26th September at Wentworth Woodhouse, Barnsley
-
Sunday 17th October at Temple Newsam, Leeds
