Natalie joined YBTC after working within community mental health and volunteering for a local charity.
She was born in Leeds and raised in Wakefield, and studied Health and Social Care at the Open University and Counselling Skills at Dearne Valley College.
We asked her:
What made you decide to come and work for YBTC?
Having had a family member diagnosed with a brain tumour, it was a particularly special charity for me and I want to help others who are in a similar situation. I'm passionate about supporting others and it's great to be part of such a wonderful team.
Tell us a bit about what you’ve been up to over the past month
I’ve been taking support calls with patients and their families, attending
Drop-In Café sessions in Wakefield and Doncaster, and going along to our
support meetups. I'm also reviewing the
Check in and Chat peer support scheme, getting ready to relaunch it soon and recruit some new volunteers.
What’s been your favourite thing about being in Team YBTC so far?
I've loved meeting the people we work alongside within the community and getting to know the team I work with.
What are you looking forward to that’s coming up within the charity?
I’m looking forward to relaunching Check In and Chat, and hopefully expanding this scheme to offer more one-to-one support to those that need it. I’m also looking forward to setting up new support groups in York, Hull and Huddersfield.
What’s your biggest pet peeve?
My rugby team Wakefield Trinity losing!
