Kirstie and friends head for Barcelona in brave fundraising challenge

Sun 20 October

At the end of September BTRS supporter Kirstie Speciale embarked on an epic challenge. She cycled from Carcassonne in France to Barcelona in Spain, that’s a whopping 270 miles.
Describing the ride as her ‘latest and greatest’ adventure, the gruelling ride through the Pyrenees mountains takes four days and a whole lot of effort.
Kirstie embarked on the ride to raise funds and awareness for BTRS, a charity very close to her heart.
In her own roads, here’s how she found the challenge:
“I can safely say, I was way out of my ‘flat’ comfort zone as it turns out there are no flat bits in the Pyrenees! I’ve cycled from London to Paris and Venice to Rome before, but this was one of the most challenging I’ve done thanks to the climbing. Over the four days we climbed over 28,000 feet over 10 categorised climbs, 1s, 2s and 3s with an HC cat for good measure to the top of Port d’Envalira. This 22-mile climb up to 2,408 metres disagreed with me so much that I had a panic attack brought on by not being able to breathe.”
“It really was a toughy, much tougher than I’ve done before. It was worth it though. I've been blown away by the staggering landscape and cycled in great supportive company along some of the most incredible roads out there. Special thanks to Dave and Jamie our fantastic crew from Discover Adventure. I’m especially thankful that they found me when I got totally lost outside Barcelona. I even took a quick spin up a Spanish motorway much to the horror of passing motorists, I shan't do that again in a hurry, mind.”
“I raised money for BTRS as my husband lost his father to a brain tumour many years ago. He possibly could have been here today thanks to the work that's subsequently been done using research carried out by charities like BTRS. I also lost a very dear friend earlier this year, who was taken tragically young which kicked me into action.”

So far Kirstie has raised over £1,700, an incredible feat. If you’d like to donate to her cause, you can do so through JustGiving here:
