Join Baildon Rugby Club to tackle cancer

Fri 08 October

Members of Baildon Rugby Club are getting together for a charity fundraising day, supporting various cancer charities including YBTC.
In recent years, members of the Baildon RUFC family have been diagnosed with or impacted by brain cancer. The team have got together to organise a special "Baildon RUFC versus Cancer" fundraising day.

Mark Purvis, a coach from the club said: “We want people who have been diagnosed and their families to know that they are not alone. Just as we pick up our team mates on the pitch, we are with our friends and team mates when they face cancer. So, on Saturday 16th October we will be hosting a fundraising event with all proceeds going to five cancer charities. We are delighted that Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity is one of those chosen.

"I lost a dear friend of mine who was a nursing colleague to a brain tumour. It was horribly aggressive and she lived a matter of weeks after presenting with brain fog. We all thought it was long Covid. I miss her a lot, she was so sensible. I was due to see her the day she was rushed into the hospice with symptoms that were difficult to control. I also have another medical colleague who has an inoperable brain tumour. So on a personal level, it was fantastic that YBTC was suggested as a charity we should support.”
The day will run from 1pm - 9pm and will feature Baildon 2nd XV v Keighley 3rd XV in a merit table fixture. This will be followed by Baildon 1st XV v Thornesians in a Yorkshire Two league match which will also be the first leg of the Brian Hawkins Memorial Trophy.
There will be food, a bar, entertainment with music and family activities throughout the day.
A huge thank you to everyone at Baildon RUFC for choosing YBTC as one of the charities to raise funds for - we really appreciate your support!

The charity day is at Baildon RUFC, Jenny Lane, Baildon BD17 6SH and anyone is welcome. For more information about the event, click here.
If you cannot join the fun but want to support the club's fundraising, team manager Christopher Williams is doing a sponsored 10 mile walk from Keighley RUFC to Baildon RUFC on Sunday 10th October. He will be dressed as a blue smurf, so is hoping for good weather! To support Christopher's event, click here.
