How to support YBTC this Brain Tumour Awareness Month

How to support YBTC this Brain Tumour Awareness Month

Mon 28 February

This March, help us to keep our great work going and make sure no one goes through a brain tumour diagnosis alone.
This Brain Tumour Awareness Month, we’re drawing attention to the amazing work our support team, researchers, staff and volunteers do to support people affected by a brain tumour across the region and find better treatments and a cure.

We’re also highlighting what more needs to be done to put an end to this devastating disease.

11,000 people are diagnosed with a primary brain tumour in England each year, and only 12% of brain tumour patients survive beyond five years from their diagnosis. Yet, brain tumour research receives just 1% of the annual national cancer research spend.

If you’d like to help us to continue funding vital, life-changing research, while offering the best patient and family support network we can through our drop-ins, groups, wellbeing walks and phoneline, please consider supporting us. Here are some ways you can help:

Get involved with Flat Cap Friday

Every Brain Tumour Awareness Month, we ask you to don a flat cap for our Flat Cap Friday campaign.

Putting a Yorkshire twist on the traditional “wear a hat day”, this is a great way to raise awareness of YBTC's work by sharing a quirky selfie with your friends and followers. You might even choose to organise your own Flat Cap Friday event, like a mini concert, a quiz night or a ramble in the countryside!

This year, for the first time ever we are asking you to stick the kettle on and join us for a Flat Cap Brew. Get together with friends, family and colleagues for a brew – this can be tea, coffee or something a little stronger! – and make sure to snap a picture of your get-together. The best #FlatCapBrew selfie wins a bespoke flatcap from Atelier Rahman of Farsley.

Make a donation

At YBTC every donation, large or small, makes a huge difference. Here are a few examples of how your donations can help:
  • With £5 we can give a child we support an Easter egg or a present from Santa
  • £10 is the cost of two people attending one of our patient support groups
  • £15 can fund a place on our wellbeing walks for patients and loved ones
  • £25 helps us to send a child to our Christmas party
  • With £60 we can deliver a counselling session for a patient or carer
  • £100 helps us run our telephone support line for one day
  • With £343 we can fund innovative research for a day in one of our labs
  • With £500 we can provide a grant to a patient to reduce the financial burden of a diagnosis
Any and every amount has an impact on the patients and families we support. To make a donation, please click here.

Fundraise for us

If you fancy a challenge this month, why not organise a fundraiser? You could do anything from completing a run, bike ride or climb, doing a sponsored silence or step challenge, to organising a bake sale, garden party, quiz or concert. We love weird and wonderful ideas and are happy to provide fundraising and admin assistance to help you raise as much as possible.
