Good luck to our marathon runners!

Mon 27 September

Best of luck to Wendy Mundy, Andrew Messenger, Jennie Castlehouse and Natasha Griffiths-Wright, who are running the London Marathon for us this weekend!
We want to say a big thank you to our four runners who are taking on the London Marathon on Sunday 3rd October. We'll be cheering you on and are sure you will smash it!

Wendy Mundy

Wendy said: "We are fundraising for YBTC as my husband Chris has a brain tumour, diagnosed aged 21 which causes him epilepsy. He is 45 now and has had two awake craniotomies (brain surgery where they wake you up during it for a couple of hours), chemotherapy and radiotherapy. He also had a stroke in 2018.

"There is still some tumour that cannot be removed so he has regular MRIs to check it is not growing again. Chris has left-sided weakness and struggles with some processing of tasks but takes everything in his stride and loves running with the Farsley Flyers. He is amazing and my hero!

"This is a great charity not only for the support they give locally but also the hugely important research they do. So please donate and spur me on. Running the London Marathon has been a dream of mine for so long, one which I never thought I would achieve."

Andy Messenger

Andy said: "On the 27th of December 2020 we lost my brother-in-law Matt Coles, less than 10 months after the diagnosis of a brain tumour. Matt was only 47 when we lost him, cruel doesn't even come close... Hopefully through this fundraising I can give a little bit back, on behalf of all my family, in loving memory of Matt.

"I'm no stranger to a daft challenge for charity but with this one being so close to home and the realisation that research into this kind of cancer is woefully underfunded, I've upped the stakes. This time it's three events!"

Andy has already taken on a 9-hour virtual running event and a 62-mile race this year in memory of Matt. The London Marathon will be his third challenge, and this time, he will be wearing a costume picked out by his nephew Max... a Bobba Fett costume!

Jennie Castlehouse

Jennie said: "One of my lovely clients came in and told me news I hoped I wouldn't hear. In August 2018 her beautiful daughter Cara was diagnosed with a low grade brain tumour. Cara was due to have surgery in January 2020. Unfortunately Cara never made the surgery and passed away at home on 29th December 2019. Cara was 11. This devastating outcome should never happen in any family, nor to someone so young with her life ahead of her.

"I would really like to try and raise some money to help this charity in memory of Cara. Unfortunately nothing can change what has happened, but raising money may help change someone else's future."

Natasha Griffiths-Wright

Natasha said: "I am setting myself a big challenge of a 26.2 mile marathon. I am doing this for my lovely mummy who died far too early from brain problems, raising money for YBTC in her memory. I am hoping we can raise loads because this charity is really lose to my heart."

Natasha will be running the Virtual London Marathon, which means she'll complete the same distance as the regular route, but close to her hometown.
