Melissa and Gina were nominated by their fellow Leeds Beckett students for their work organising "Charity Chat", an informative event about what it's like to work within a charity.
Melissa and Gina have both been volunteering with Yorkshire's Brain Tumour Charity for the past year. Gina has been posting on and monitoring our LinkedIn account and helping us reach new audiences, while Melissa has helped our fundraising and support teams with research and admin tasks, as well as bringing invaluable experience of working with children.
Nominations for the Event of the Year category recognised student-led events that stood out from the crowd; which were unique, interesting, inclusive, and lots of fun. The other shortlisted events included "Society Alliance Among Us Online" and the Drama Society's Guided Meditation.
During Student Volunteering Week Melissa and Gina hosted a "Charity Chat" session for Leeds Beckett students, telling them about their personal experiences of volunteering with YBTC and providing advice and guidance for anyone else who might like to try volunteering.
One of the people who nominated Melissa and Gina said: "It was of amazing value to have the session led by two students who know what it is like on a personal level to volunteer with a charity."
We're so proud of both of them here at YBTC and grateful for all their amazing help over the past year.
