Team YBTC had a wonderful time helping out at two cricketing events back in September, raising funds for
Beefy's Charity Foundation.
On
Wednesday 15th September,
The Sporting Club and Beefy's Charity Foundation organised an
anniversary dinner at Headingley Stadium, to commemorate 40 years since Ian Botham's iconic 1981 Ashes.
The evening was compered by commentator and former cricketer David Gower. Cricketers who played in the test match at Headingley 40 years ago joined in the evening and reminisced about their years in the England team.
There was a video message from Mike Brearley, then interviews with (L-R) Mike Gatting, Peter Willey, Chris Old, Ian Botham, Bob Taylor, Graham Gooch and Geoff Boycott.
YBTC is a proud member charity of Beefy's Charity Foundation and it was a privilege for our team to help out on the night by raffling chocolate bars containing winning tickets, sponsored by
Whitakers Chocolates. Here we are with the lovely Sarah Botham, just before the night began!
On
Thursday 16th September, Team YBTC enjoyed serving cricket teas at the
Lords v Commons Cricket Match at Pudsey St Lawrence Cricket Club, raising funds for Beefy's Charity Foundation and
the Lord's Taveners.
Organised by former MP Andrew Bingham and sponsored by
Sunbelt Rentals, the match saw familiar faces from the House of Commons and the House of Lords hit for six against the Lord's Taveners charity team.
Lord’s Taverners President David Gower was the umpire and conducted the prizegiving. On the day, he said "There are so many things that the Lord's Taveners do so well; the prime target of all our efforts is for disadvantaged children around the country to take part in the sport. Our disabled children play table cricket and absolutely love it. Any support we get from days like today is much appreciated and very special."
YBTC was invited to provide cricket teas for the players, but was delighted to be able to work with the cricket club on the day to feed the crowd too! An amazing £1,400 was raised in total from the cricket teas.
Food was generously provided by
Henshelwoods Delicatessen in York,
Moores Bakery in Horsforth,
Stateside Foods,
Bentleys Butchers of Pudsey, Pudsey St Lawrence members and our own Cake Ambassador, Dawn Clark.
Together they put together a beautiful Yorkshire spread and received compliments from all the MPs, cricketers and guests. We even got a special mention from David Gower for our hard work in the kitchen!
The anniversary dinner and the cricket match were both superb events raising important funds for all eight charities supported by Beefy's, and we were honoured to play a part.
