Talking to a trained professional can feel different to talking to friends or family members
What is therapy and how can it help?
A therapist is trained to listen and respond to you with empathy and compassion. They will not judge or offer advice and you won’t need to protect their feelings as you would with a loved one.
A therapist will probably reflect back what you have said to check they have understood how you are feeling and the process of this reflection can be extremely useful in meaning making and clarification.
Often, as individuals we tend to think about our problems and keep them to ourselves. By talking about our experiences, we tend to hear our explanation and work through those thoughts. When someone tells us we aren’t going mad, or our feelings are normal and deeply painful, our healing can fully expand.
If you share a positive experience of your loved one, this helps strengthen the bond you are feeling, it builds resilience and helps with the adjustment process of coping without them.
YBTC is here to help. You can contact us on 0113 340 0111 or email

. We have a professional counsellor who we can refer you to if this will be helpful to you.
