To ensure the charity are funding high quality research and that our process for making decisions is fair and informed, we have a Research Advisory Committee that scrutinise all funding applications of over £30,000.

The purpose of the Research Advisory Committee is to form a detailed opinion about funding applications that have been received, alongside their peer reviews.

Peer review is the evaluation of work by one or more people with similar competencies, for example other researchers or clinicians.

The committee is responsible for scrutinising the applications and writing a recommendation to the Board of Trustees, ensuring they have all the information required to make an informed and fair decision.

There are two lay members on the Research Advisory Committee, alongside Trustees of the charity and at least one Medical/Clinical Trustee.

Lay members of the committee have the opportunity to use their own personal experience of brain tumours to assess grant applications and be the voice of the brain tumour community.

We are not currently recruiting for lay members at this time, but we will advertise this when the opportunity arises.

If you have any queries about the Research Advisory Committee, or research in general please email research@yorksbtc.org.uk
