I’m Janet and I’ve been actively involved with Yorkshire's Brain Tumour Charity as a volunteer and Ambassador for over nine years.

During this time I’ve been busy putting my range of skills to good use, helping the charity to help others in a variety of different ways.

I’ve worked in the charity shop in Headingley dressing windows, serving customers and tidying the stockroom.

I have placed a number of collection tins around Leeds, where local businesses help to raise funds for the charity all year round. I have also stood outside garden centres and supermarkets with a collection bucket raising awareness of the support the charity offers.

I attended the Brand Yorkshire event in Harrogate in 2022, a fantastic opportunity to encourage new sponsors for the charity. I’m pleased to say this was very successful.

My main role now as a volunteer is chairing the ever-popular Online Bereavement Support Group, which meets virtually every fortnight. We are a caring, friendly bunch of mixed individuals, who provide a safe space for people who have lost someone to a brain tumour. Tears are shed, but it’s not all doom and gloom - we always manage to have a much-needed giggle.
