My husband, Alistair, died nearly 3 years ago of a glioblastoma, ten days after his 51st birthday.

The last few years have been, without doubt, the most challenging of my life.

I did not know about YBTC when Alistair was poorly. Since he has died I have become a very active champion of the charity and have met some fantastic people along the way.

Being an Ambassador is really just about being yourself and working out how you can involve your local community. Since joining the team, I have roped in my gym for the Big Bike Challenge; taken YBTC to the British Orienteering Championships, spoken to Huddersfield Probus, pulled pints at The Beck Beer Festival, joined the Christmas Fair and Ball Committees and volunteered at the YBTC shop. I feel honoured to represent the charity, and I am gobsmacked at the goodwill out there and how many doors have been opened, just by chatting with people.

The highlight of 2019 was to support my sister-in-law at the YBTC Yorkshire Day Skydive (pictured), who had flown in especially for the event from Northern Ireland. It was a fantastic sunny day in Brid and we cheered her on as she jumped out of a plane in memory of her brother, my husband. Afterwards we raised an ice cream to him and his dad on the seafront.

My motivation for being an Ambassador is to help YBTC reach other families in Yorkshire that have felt the devastating impact of a brain tumour. I feel there must be some good that comes out of my husband’s death.
